| Nota de conteúdo | <br/><br/>RESUMO: <br/><br/>Visando analisar o óleo essencial produzido por Hyptis suaveolens (L.) Poit. (mentrasto),<br/>cultivou-se em casa de vegetação espécimens desta planta. O óleo foi obtido pelo método de arraste<br/>por vapor d’água e analisado por cromatografia em fase gasosa e espectrometria de massas (CGEM). <br/>O teor de óleo nas inflorescências foi maior que nas folhas e no caule. Foram identificados 38<br/>compostos, sendo 16 (42,1%) monoterpenos, 13 (36,8%) sesquiterpenos, 6 (15,8%) alcanos,<br/>benzotiazol (2,6%) e uma (2,6%) cetona aromática. Os sesquiterpenos p-cariofileno (10,39%) e<br/>espatulenol (13,30%) foram os compostos encontrados em maiores concentrações nas folhas e nos<br/>caules respectivamente. Nas inflorescências, o monoterpeno 1,8-cineol (27,47%) apresentou-se em<br/>maior concentração.<br/><br/>Palavras-chave: Mentrasto; planta medicinal; óleo essencial |

| Nota de conteúdo | <br/><br/>ABSTRACT: <br/><br/>Chemical Composition of the Essential Oil of Hyptis suaveolens (L.) Poit. (Lamiaceae).<br/>Specimens of Hyptis suavelens (L.) Poit. were cultivated in a greenhouse with aim to analyse the<br/>composition of the essential oil produced by this plant. The oils, obtained from leaves, stems and<br/>inflorecences by steam distillation, were analyzed by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry<br/>(GC-MS). The inflorescence produced more oil than the leaves and stems. A total of 38 compounds<br/>were identified, being 16 (42,1%) monoterpenes, 13 (36,8%) sesquiterpenes, 6 (15,8%) alkanes,<br/>benzotiazole (2,6%) e one (2,6%) aromatic ketone. The sesquiterpenes p-caryophyllene (10,39%) and<br/>spathulenol (13,30%) were present in higher yields in the leaves and steams, respectively.
