| Nota de conteúdo | <br/><br/>RESUMO: <br/><br/>A espécie Cyathea atrovirens, conhecida pela população como xaxim de espinho e<br/>xaxim verde escuro, é utilizada para a fabricação de artefatos em fibras e na jardinagem. Este<br/>estudo teve por objetivo uma avaliação do extrato e frações obtidas das frondes de C. atrovirens<br/>a fim de identificar classes de constituintes químicos presentes e avaliar o potencial biológico.<br/>Para análise fitoquímica preliminar foram utilizadas reações químicas de identificação das<br/>principais classes de metabólitos presentes além da toxicidade preliminar pelos testes “in vitro”<br/>com Artemia salina e hemólise, determinação do teor de fenóis totais por Folin Ciocalteau, poder<br/>antioxidante pelos métodos DPPH● e Fosfomolibdênio. Foram observadas reações positivas<br/>para taninos, flavonoides, esteroides e triterpenos, além do isolamento de um heterosídeo<br/>flavônico, a astragalina, da fração acetato de etila. As amostras não apresentaram toxicidade<br/>frente à Artemia salina ou atividade hemolítica com alto teor de fenóis totais e atividades<br/>antioxidantes. Conclui-se que a espécie pode ser fonte promissora de compostos com possível<br/>atividade antioxidante sem apresentar toxicidade.<br/><br/>Palavras-chave: Cyatheaceae, Atividade antioxidante, Polifenóis, Astragalina. |

| Nota de conteúdo | <br/><br/>ABSTRACT: <br/><br/>Isolation of flavonoid, evaluation of the antioxidant potential and preliminary<br/>toxicity of extract and fractions obtained from Cyathea atrovirens species (Cyatheaceae).<br/>Cyathea atrovirens is popularly known as thorn tree fern and dark green fern used for the<br/>manufacture of artifacts in fiber and gardening. This study aimed at an evaluation of the<br/>extract and fractions obtained from the fronds of C. atrovirens to identify classes of chemical<br/>constituents present and assess the biological potential. Preliminary phytochemical analysis<br/>was performed through chemical reactions for identification of the main metabolites present<br/>classes, preliminary toxicity test “in vitro” with Artemia salina and hemolysis, determination of<br/>total phenols content by Folin Ciocalteu, antioxidant power by DPPH● and Fosfomolibdênio<br/>methods. Positive reactions were observed for tannins, flavonoids, steroids and triterpenes.<br/>Astragalin was isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction. The samples showed no toxicity against<br/>A. salina or hemolytic activity and showed high content of phenolic compounds with antioxidant<br/>activity. It is concluded that the species may be a promising source of compounds with antioxidant<br/>activity without displaying toxicity.<br/><br/>Keywords: Cyatheaceae, Antioxidant activity, Polyphenols, Astragalin. |
