| Nota de conteúdo | <br/><br/><br/>Resumo: O óleo essencial de Cymbopogon citratus tem sido objeto de investigação devido a sua potencial atividade contra microorganismos patogênicos. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a influência do horário de colheita da planta sobre a composição química, rendimento e atividade antibacteriana do óleo essencial de C. citratus. O óleo essencial foi obtido por processo de hidrodestilação em aparelho tipo Clevenger. Posteriormente, os óleos essenciais extraídos do material coletado em diferentes horários (7, 9, 12, 15, 17 h) foram avaliados em relação ao rendimento de extração, análise por infravermelho, composição química por cromatografia gasosa e capacidade antibacteriana pelo método de difusão em disco. Os óleos essenciais das folhas coletadas na parte da manhã apresentaram os maiores rendimentos. No entanto, os óleos essenciais das folhas coletadas após 12 horas apresentaram zonas de inibição maiores contra os microrganismos Escherichia coli e Staphylococcus aureus, e apresentaram níveis mais elevados do componente principal, α e β-citral. Portanto, o óleo essencial de C. citratus apresentou-se com potencial de ser utilizado na inibição dos microrganismos em estudo, verificando-se a ocorrência de variações conforme o horário da colheita na planta. <br/><br/><br/>Palavras-chave: Cymbopogon citratus, Oleos voláteis, Microbiologia |

| Nota de conteúdo | <br/><br/><br/>Abstract: The Cymbopogon citratus essential oil has been the subject of research because of its potential activity against pathogenic microorganisms. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of the time of harvest of the plant on the chemical composition, yield and antibacterial activity of the essential oil of C. citratus. The essential oil was obtained by hydrodistillation process Clevenger type apparatus. Subsequently, the essential oils extracted from material collected at different times (7, 9, 12, 15, 17 h) were evaluated for extraction yield, infrared analysis, chemical composition by gas chromatography and antibacterial capability using the disc diffusion method. The essential oils from leaves collected in the morning presents the highest yields. However, the essential oils from leaves collected after middle day showed larger zones of inhibition against microorganisms Escherichia coli e Staphylococcus aureus, and showed higher levels of the major component, α and β-citral. Therefore, the essential oil of C. citratuspresented with potential to be used in the inhibition of the microorganisms under study, verifying theoccurrence of variations according to the time of harvest in the plant. <br/><br/><br/>Keywords: Cymbopogon citratus, Volatile Oils, Microbiology. |
