| Nota de conteúdo | <br/><br/><br/>Resumo: Objetivou-se com este estudo avaliar o efeito de diferentes arranjos populacionais da planta de milho sobre as características agronômicas e a produtividade de silagem e grãos. O ensaio foi conduzido no Departamento de Zootecnia da UFSM, localizado no município de Santa Maria – RS. O delineamento experimental foi de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições, num esquema fatorial 3x3. Os tratamentos consistiram em três densidades de semeadura: 49.500; 66.000 e 82.500 plantas ha-1, e três espaçamentos entre linhas: 0,5; 0,7 e 0,9 m. Foram avaliadas as seguintes características: número de folhas por planta; número de folhas senescentes; número de espigas por planta; altura da planta; altura de inserção da espiga; diâmetro da espiga; comprimento da espiga; diâmetro de colmo; produtividade de silagem, expressa na matéria verde e seca, e rendimento de grãos. As médias foram comparadas pelo teste de Tukey a 5% de significância. Não houve interação entre espaçamento e densidade para nenhuma das variáveis testadas. Os espaçamentos entre linhas não afetaram nenhuma das variáveis. A densidade de 82,5 mil plantas ha-1foi superior para produção de silagem e de grãos em comparação as demais. O melhor arranjo de plantas para o híbrido AS1551 PRO é com 82,5 mil plantas ha-1, independentemente do espaçamento entre linhas<br/><br/><br/>Palavras-chave: Zea mays, Espaçamento, Forragem |

| Nota de conteúdo | <br/><br/><br/>Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different population arrangements of corn plant on agronomic characteristics and productivity of silage and grain. The experiment was conducted at the Department of Animal Science of UFSM, located in the municipality of Santa Maria – RS. The experimental design was a randomized block design, with four replications, in a 3x3 factorial scheme. The treatments consisted of three sowing densities: 49,500; 66,000 and 82,500 plants ha-1, and three row spacing: 0.5; 0.7 and 0.9 m. The following characteristics were evaluated: number of leaves per plant; number of senescent leaves; number of spikes per plant; plant height; height of insertion of the pin; ear diameter; length of spike; stem diameter; silage yield, expressed in green and dry matter, and yield of grains. Means were compared by Tukey’s test at 5% of significance. There was no interaction between spacing and density for any of the tested variables. Row spacing evaluated did not affect any of the variables. The density of 82,500 plants ha-1produced higher silage and more grain than the others.
