| Nota de conteúdo | <br/><br/><br/>RESUMO: O trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar o desempenho de plantas de taioba submetidas a restrição de luz por diferentes materiais de cobertura. Os tratamentos consistiram de cinco ambientes de cultivo: 1- cultivo a céu aberto (controle); 2- cultivo sob tela sombrite® preta 30%; 3- cultivo sob tela sombrite® preta 50%; 4- cultivo sob filme agrícola de 150 μ e 5- cultivo sob tela antigranizo preto 18%. Os ambientes telados tinham pé direito de 2,5 m e largura de 2,0 m contendo duas fileiras espaçadas de 1,0 m cada e as plantas espaçadas de 0,5 m. Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, com oito repetições. Foram avaliadas características de parte aérea e subterrânea e determinado o índice SPAD. Melhores resultados de características de parte aérea e subterrânea foram obtidos em plantas cultivadas sob a tela antigranizo 18%, sem diferir da tela sombrite® 50%. Nesses ambientes também foram registrados os maiores valores de índice SPAD evidenciando que esse índice pode ser um bom indicativo do estado N das plantas e de produtividade de folhas e de rizomas. A utilização da tela antigranizo 18% e da tela sombrite® 50%, nessa ordem de preferência, são indicadas para cobertura das plantas de taioba. <br/><br/><br/><br/>Palavras-chave: filme plástico; restrição de luz; tela antigranizo; tela de sombreamento; Xanthosoma saggitifolium |

| Nota de conteúdo | <br/><br/><br/>ABSTRACT: The study aimed to evaluate the performance of cocoyam grown under differents roofing materials. The treatments consisted in the cultivation of tannia under five different environments: 1- no shading (control); 2- shade screen of 30%; 3- shade screen of 50%; 4- agricultural film of 150 μ and 5- anti-hail screen 18%. We used the experimental randomized block design with eight replications. Were evaluated aerial and underground part characteristics and determined the SPAD index. Best results of aerial and underground parts of characteristics were obtained in plants grown under anti-hail screen 18%, without differ from the shade screen of 50%. In such environments, the highest SPAD index values were also recorded showing that the content can be a good indication of the state of nitrogen plants and productivity of rhizomes and leaves. The use of anti – hail screen 18% and shade screen of 50%, in this order of preference, are indicated for coverage of the taioba plants. <br/><br/><br/><br/>Key words: agricultural film; light restriction; anti-hail screen; shade screen; Xanthosoma saggitifolium |
