RESUMO:

No presente trabalho objetivou-se identificar a literatura disponível referente a eficácia
de extratos de Melia azedarach sobre larvas de Aedes aegypti. O estudo trata de uma revisão
integrativa da literatura conduzida a partir das orientações de Ganong (1987) utilizando os
descritores: “Melia azedarach” AND “Aedes aegypti”, sendo os filtros utilizados nos cruzamentos
ano de publicação de 2006 a 2016, idiomas português, inglês e espanhol, trabalhos no formato
de artigos científicos e disponíveis online na forma completa. Foram encontrados cinco estudos
publicados na base BVS e 947 no Google Acadêmico. Com os critérios de inclusão, exclusão e
seleção, seis publicações foram selecionadas por referir-se explicitamente ao objeto de estudo.
A revisão revelou que os extratos de frutos e folhas de M. azedarach contêm substâncias com
atividade tanto larvicida quanto ovicida sobre A. aegypti, apresentando-se como alternativa
promissora ao controle do vetor oferecendo uma ferramenta importante para o manejo nos
programas de controle vetorial da Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika vírus e Febre Amarela urbana.

ABSTRACT:

Larvicidal properties of Melia azedarach on Aedes aegypti (Diptera:
Culicidae): an integrative review of the literature. The aim of this study was to identify the
available literature regarding the efficacy of Melia azedarach extracts on Aedes aegypti larvae.
The study deals with an integrative literature review based on the Ganong (1987) guidelines
using the descriptors: “Melia azedarach” AND “Aedes aegypti”, being the filters and the year
of publication 2006 to 2016, in Portuguese, English and Spanish languages, all papers in the
format of scientific articles and available online in full form. Five studies were published on the
BVS base and 947 were found in Google Scholar. With the inclusion, exclusion and selection
criteria, six publications were selected because they refer explicitly to the object of study. The
review revealed that the extracts of fruits and leaves of M. azedarach contains substances with
both larvicidal and ovicidal activity on A. aegypti, presenting itself as a promising alternative
to vector control, offering an important tool for management in the vector control programs of
Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika virus and Urban Yellow Fever.
