RESUMO: 

O &#xF3;leo de copaiba ( Copaifera langsdorfii Desfon ) que tem sido utilizado pela popula&#xE7;&#xE3;o
brasileira para tratamento de c&#xE2;ncer, &#xFA;lcera, s&#xED;filis, bronquite e diarr&#xE9;ia mostrou uma potente atividade
antitumoral contra carcinoma IMC em camundongos. No presente trabalho foi avaliada a atividade
mutag&#xEA;nica e citot&#xF3;xica desse &#xF3;leo, para isso foi utilizado o teste do micron&#xFA;cleo em eritr&#xF3;citos da
medula &#xF3;ssea de camundongos Mus musculus. Grupos de 7 camundongos foram tratados com &#xF3;leo
de copaiba por administra&#xE7;&#xE3;o oral com doses de 2,11mL/kg (25% de DL50), 4,22mL/kg (50% de DL50)
e 6,76mL/kg ( 80% de DL50). Para todas as doses utilizadas, a frequ&#xEA;ncia de micron&#xFA;cleos foi avaliada
nos tempos de 24, 48 e 72 h ap&#xF3;s administra&#xE7;&#xE3;o. A citotoxicidade foi avaliada pela rela&#xE7;&#xE3;o entre
eritr&#xF3;citos policrom&#xE1;ticos e normocrom&#xE1;ticos (EPC/ENC). Os resultados obtidos mostraram um aumento
significativo (P &lt; 0,001) de frequ&#xEA;ncia de micron&#xFA;cleos em eritr&#xF3;citos policrom&#xE1;ticos (EPCMN) para
as doses de 4,22mL/kg (50 % da DL 50) e 6,76 mL/kg ( 80% da DL50). Em rela&#xE7;&#xE3;o ao tempo de
administra&#xE7;&#xE3;o, a frequ&#xEA;ncia m&#xE1;xima de micron&#xFA;cleos (MN) foi observada no tempo de 24 horas.
Pelos resultados obtidos p&#xF4;de-se sugerir que o &#xF3;leo de Copaifera langsdorfii Desfon exibiu a atividade
mutag&#xEA;nica. A citotoxicidade foi evidenciada em todas as doses aplicadas.

ABSTRACT: 

Toxic and mutagenic activity of oleoresin of Copaiba (Copaifera langsdorfii Desfon) in
mice. The oleoresin of Copaiba , Copaifera langsdorfii Desfon , which has been used by the Brazilian
population for treatment of cancer, ulcer, syphilis, bronchitis, and diarrhea, showed a potent anti-tumor
activity against IMC carcinoma in mice. In this present study, the aim was to evaluate the mutagenic
activity and the cyto-toxicity of the oleoresin of &#x201C;copaiba&#x201D; in the mouse, with the bone marrow micronucleus
test. Doses of oleoresin of 2.11ml/kg (25% of LD50 ), 4.22mL/kg (50% of LD50), and 6.76mL/kg (80% of
LD50 ) were given by oral administration to mice Mus musculus in groups of 7 animals for each
treatment. For all the doses, micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes frequency (MNPCE ) was
evaluated at periods of 24, 48, and 72 hours. Cytoxicity was evaluated polychromatic and normochromatic 
erythrocytes ratio (PCE and NCE). Results showed that the oleoresin in doses of 4.22 mL/
kg, (50% of LD50) and 6.76mL/kg (80% Of LD50) increased significantly (p&lt; 0.001) the frequency of
MNPCE compared to negative control group. In relation to the administered time, the maximum frequency
of induction of MNPCE was observed in 24h. These results indicate that the oleoresin of &#x201C;copaiba&#x201D;
exhibited mutagenic activity. Cytotoxicity was evident in all dosages applied.
