RESUMO: 

Visando analisar o &#xF3;leo essencial produzido por Hyptis suaveolens (L.) Poit. (mentrasto),
cultivou-se em casa de vegeta&#xE7;&#xE3;o esp&#xE9;cimens desta planta. O &#xF3;leo foi obtido pelo m&#xE9;todo de arraste
por vapor d&#x2019;&#xE1;gua e analisado por cromatografia em fase gasosa e espectrometria de massas (CGEM). 
O teor de &#xF3;leo nas infloresc&#xEA;ncias foi maior que nas folhas e no caule. Foram identificados 38
compostos, sendo 16 (42,1%) monoterpenos, 13 (36,8%) sesquiterpenos, 6 (15,8%) alcanos,
benzotiazol (2,6%) e uma (2,6%) cetona arom&#xE1;tica. Os sesquiterpenos p-cariofileno (10,39%) e
espatulenol (13,30%) foram os compostos encontrados em maiores concentra&#xE7;&#xF5;es nas folhas e nos
caules respectivamente. Nas infloresc&#xEA;ncias, o monoterpeno 1,8-cineol (27,47%) apresentou-se em
maior concentra&#xE7;&#xE3;o.

ABSTRACT: 

Chemical Composition of the Essential Oil of Hyptis suaveolens (L.) Poit. (Lamiaceae).
Specimens of Hyptis suavelens (L.) Poit. were cultivated in a greenhouse with aim to analyse the
composition of the essential oil produced by this plant. The oils, obtained from leaves, stems and
inflorecences by steam distillation, were analyzed by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry
(GC-MS). The inflorescence produced more oil than the leaves and stems. A total of 38 compounds
were identified, being 16 (42,1%) monoterpenes, 13 (36,8%) sesquiterpenes, 6 (15,8%) alkanes,
benzotiazole (2,6%) e one (2,6%) aromatic ketone. The sesquiterpenes p-caryophyllene (10,39%) and
spathulenol (13,30%) were present in higher yields in the leaves and steams, respectively. The
monoterpene 1,8-cineole (27,47%) was the major compound present in the inflorescences essential
oil.
