Resumo: 

O extrato etanólico, frações e compostos isolados das partes aéreas de Ipomoea
cairica foram avaliados quanto uma possível atividade antimicrobiana e citotóxica. Testes realizados
mostraram a inibição do crescimento de Staphylococcus aureus e atividade citotóxica, quando
utilizado o modelo de toxicidade frente a larvas de Artemia salina. Do extrato etanólico foram
isoladas as substâncias 3-O-glicopiranosídeo do b-sitosterol (3) e o trachelosídeo (5), ainda não
descritas nessa espécie.

ABSTRACT: Biological activities of aerial parts of Ipomoea cairica (Convolvulaceae). The
ethanol extract, fractions, and isolated compounds from the aerial parts of Ipomoea cairica were
investigated for possible antimicrobial and cytotoxic activity. The results showed the inhibition of
the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and toxicity to Artemia salina brine shrimp. From the ethanol
extract were isolated â-sitosterol 3-O-glycopyranoside (3) and tracheloside (5), which are first
reported in this species.
