A colheita defolhas (0,86% OE)

ABSTRACT:

Production of essential oil of canela (Ocotea odorífera Veil.) and guaçatonga (Casearia
sylvestris Swartz) in function of the harvest time. Canela (Ocotea odorífera) and guaçatonga (Casearia
sylvestris) are important medicinal species of the Brazilian flora. This work had as objective studies the
production of essential oil in function of the harvest time of the vegetable raw material originating from natural
populations of canela and guaçatonga. In the analysis of the data it was considered the outline of subdivided
fractions, having in the fractions the periods (seasons) and in the sub fractions the vegetable parts (leaves,
branches and bark), in the delineation in randomized blocks with 6 repetitions. The content of essential oil
(OE) was expressed on dry weight basis and it was extracted through the vapor dragging method. The results
showed that the studied species, canela and guaçatonga, present seasonal variability in the production of
essential oil; it was also verified, for both species, that interaction exists between harvest time and vegetable
parts. The harvest of leaves (0,86% EO) and branches (0,83% EO) of canela should be accomplished in
summer season and of bark (1,37% EO) in the spring. For guaçatonga, it is just recommended the retreat of
foliate biomass, considering the low oil production in the branches (0,14%); the harvest of leaves (1,0% EO)
should be accomplished in the autumn season, seeking the sustainable management ally to the maxim
production of essential oil.

Key words: medicinal plants, essential oil, non-woody forest products, seasonal chemical variability, Mata
Atlântica.
