A variação intra-específica
germacreno-D (79,2%) e germacreno-B (14,8%). À tarde, os constituintes principais foram identificados
como: longifoleno (3,2%), p-gurgeneno (1,1%), y-muuruleno (3,0%), y-gurjeneno (2,2%), p-selineno (5,2%),
germacreno-D (66,2%), biciclogermacreno (3,6%), ô-cadineno (1,7%), germacreno-B (13,7%). Rearranjos
y-gurjeneno, p-selineno, biciclogermacreno, Ô-cadineno.

ABSTRACT:

Composition and chemical variability ofthe essential oil from Casearia sylvestris SW. The
composition of the essential oil from leaves of Casearia sylvestris, was evaluated in a natural population
located in Parque Estadual Carlos Botelho, mucipality of São Miguel de Arcanjo-SP. Samples of 12 individuals
were collected in the morning (7:00 am) and in the afternoon (3:00 pm). The intra-specific variation in the
analyzed population was small, being divided into two classes consisting of 75 and 25% of the individuals,
according to procedures using HCA and PCA as chemmometrics tools. Variation in the composition of the oil
as a function of the sampling time was observed in the majoritary class. In the morning, the main components
were identified as longifolene (1.8%), p-selinene (4.2%), germacrene-D (79.2%) and germacrene-B (14.8%).
In the afternoon, the main components were identified as: longifolene (3.2%), p-gurgenene (1.1%), y-muurulene
(3.0%), y-gurjenene (2.2%), p-selinene (5.2%), germacrene-D (66.2%), biciclegermacrene (3.6%), Ô-cadinene
(1.7%), germacrene-B (13.7%). Phytochemical rearrangements of monocyclical sesquiterpenes
(germacrene-B and germacrene-D) are considered responsible for the yield the sesquiterpenes longifolene,
p-gurjuene, y-muurulene, y-gurjunene, p-selinene, biciclegermacrene, ô-cadinene.
