Foi realizado um estudo crônico empregando-se a bixina, um corante alimentar natural, isolado de Bixa orellana L, com finalidade de avaliar-se alguns parâmetros hematológicos no rato. Ratos Wistar receberam via sonda gástrica uma solução a 0,7% de bixina em óleo vegetal, durante 40 dias. Ao final do experimento, os animais foram sacrificados e pouco antes o sangue foi colhido por punção cardíaca. Foram estimados os seguintes parâmetros hematológicos: contagem de eritrócitos, hematócrito, hemoglobina, volume corpuscular médio, hemoglobina corpuscular média, concentração de hemoglobina corpuscular média, contagem de leucócitos, número de basófilos, eosinófilos, neutrófilos, linfócitos e monócitos. Nas condições do presente trabalho foi possível observar nos ratos tratados com bixina um quadro de microcitose e leucocitose.
Haematological study in rats after medicinal plants treatment. XXXVIII. Action of bixine, a natural food color extracted from Bixa orellana L. A chronic haematological study of bixin, a natural food color, extracted from Bixa orellana L, was conducted in rats. Wistar male rats received via gavage a 0,7% bixin solution in vegetal oil, during 40 days. At the end of the experiment, the animals were sacrificed and the blood was collected. Haematological parameters included erythrocyte count, haematocrit, haemoglobin, mean corpuscular volume, mean haemoglobin volume, mean corpuscular haemoglobin volume, white blood cell count, number of basophils, eosinophils, neutrophils, linfocytes and monocytes. In conclusion, the present study shows in bixin-treated rat a haematological picture of microcytosis and leucocytosis.
