RESUMO: 

A lavanda (Lavandula spp.) é uma espécie aromática, medicinal e ornamental
da família Lamiaceae cultivada em diferentes regiões do mundo para a produção de óleo
essencial obtido de folhas e inflorescências. Embora o Brasil possua uma grande demanda
pelo óleo essencial da espécie, o seu cultivo no país ainda é insignificante. Tendo em vista
que as condições climáticas e genotípicas afetam diretamente a produção dos metabólitos
secundários, faz-se necessário a seleção dos genótipos mais adequados para cada região
bem como desenvolver tecnologia de cultivo a fim de alcançar produção de óleo que atenda
aos padrões de mercado. O objetivo desta revisão é fornecer dados técnico científicos sobre
a cultura da lavanda e discutir sobre a situação atual do mercado e da pesquisa brasileira com
a espécie.

ABSTRACT: 

General aspects of Lavender cultivation (Lavandula spp.). Lavender
(Lavandula spp.) is an aromatic, medicinal and ornamental species from Lamiaceae family
cultivated in different regions of the world for essential oil which is obtained from their leaves
and inflorescences. Although Brazil has a great demand for the essential oil of this species, its
cultivation in the country is still insignificant. Given that climate and genetic conditions directly
affect the production of secondary metabolites, it is necessary to select the most appropriate
genotypes for each region as well as to develop technology for cultivation in order to achieve
the oil production that meets the industry standards. The objective of this review is to provide
technical and scientific information on the cultivation of lavender and to discuss about the
Brazilian market and research of this plant species.
