ABSTRACT:

Ficus genus: chemical aspects, antioxidant and antimicrobial potential. Plants
with medicinal potential and for human nutrition are increasingly being researched, and among
these potential plants are those of the genus Ficus, which produces a wide variety of metabolites
such as phenols, tannins, saponins, flavonoids and furocoumarins. The plants of this genus are
used mainly for ornamentation, however, several studies point out the possibility of the use of the
bark, leaves and fruits in processes where antioxidant and antimicrobial activities are required. In
this study, a literature review was carried out on the main Ficus species found in Brazil, studied
and/or described in the literature, addressing the chemical aspects and highlighting some of the
isolated chemical constituents as well as the antioxidant and antimicrobial activities evidenced.

Key words: Ficus, antioxidant activity, antimicrobial activity, chemical compounds.
