Resumo: O  objetivo  deste  trabalho  foi  investigar  a  compatibilidade  de  diferentes  morfotipos  de  pimenta, integradas   ao   Banco   de   Germoplasma   da   Universidade Federal   do   Amazonas,   em   cruzamentos interespec&#xED;ficos com piment&#xE3;o, al&#xE9;m de avaliar a variabilidade gen&#xE9;tica para caracteres de germina&#xE7;&#xE3;o em sementes   das   subamostras   em   estudo.   Sementes   de   trinta   subamostras   de Capsicum   chinense, prospectadas  no  estado  do Amazonas,  foram  analisadas  em  laborat&#xF3;rio  para  caracteres  de  germina&#xE7;&#xE3;o  e peso  de  sementes.  Para  realiza&#xE7;&#xE3;o  do  teste  de  germina&#xE7;&#xE3;o  foi  empregado  o  delineamento  inteiramente casualizado,  com  8  repeti&#xE7;&#xF5;es  e  25  sementes  por  parcela.  Enquanto  que  a  compatibilidade  destas subamostras em cruzamento com Capsicum annuum (genitor feminino) foi realizada em casa de vegeta&#xE7;&#xE3;o, a partir de tr&#xEA;s repeti&#xE7;&#xF5;es e 30 flores por parcelas, avaliando-se o vingamento de frutos. As subamostras de pimenta  apresentaram  variabilidade  gen&#xE9;tica  significativa  para  todos  os  caracteres  de  germina&#xE7;&#xE3;o.  A porcentagem  m&#xE9;dia  de  sementes  germinadas  foi  de  55,55%,  variou  de  5  a  95%,  com  tempo  m&#xE9;dio  de germina&#xE7;&#xE3;o  de  10,68  dias  e  peso  m&#xE9;dio  de  cem  sementes  de  0,27  g.  Os  altos  valores  de  herdabilidade (&gt;80%),  assim  como  a  presen&#xE7;a  de  altas  correla&#xE7;&#xF5;es no  sentido  favor&#xE1;vel  a  sele&#xE7;&#xE3;o,  entre  todos  os caracteres, possibilita ganhos gen&#xE9;ticos consider&#xE1;veis a partir da sele&#xE7;&#xE3;o fenot&#xED;pica. Todos os cruzamentos interespec&#xED;ficos realizados produziram frutos, com taxas de vingamento variando de 5,9% a 42,2% entre as subamostras. Todavia, n&#xE3;o houve correla&#xE7;&#xE3;o entre o morfotipo utilizado com a taxa de vigamento dos  frutos

Abstract: The  aim  of  this  study  was  to  investigate  the  compatibility  of  various  pepper  morphotypes  in  the Germplasm Bank at the Universidade Federal do Amazonas, in interspecific crosses with bell pepper, and to assess  the  genetic  variability  of  germination  traits  in  seeds  of  the  subsamples  under  investigation. Seeds from thirty subsamples of Capsicum chinense, collected in the Brazilian state of Amazonas,  were examined in  the  laboratory  for  germination  traits  and  seed  weight. To  perform  the  germination  test  a  fully  randomized design was used, with 8 replications and 25 seeds per plot. To assess the fruit set, the compatibility of these subsamples  in  crosses  with Capsicum annuum (female  parent) was  trialed  in  the  greenhouse,  with three replications  and  30  flowers  per  plot. The  pepper  subsamples  exhibited  significant  genetic  variability for  all germination  traits. Average  germination  was  55.55%, ranging  from  5  to  95%, with  an  average  germinationtime of 10.68 days and a mean weight of 100 seeds of 0.27 g. The high heritability figures (&gt;80%) and high correlations  favoring  selection  among  all  traits  facilitated  significant  genetic  gains  based  on  phenotypic selection.  All  the  interspecific  crosses  trialed  produced  fruits,  with  set  figures ranging  from 5.9%  to  42.2%. However, there was no correlation between the morphotype used and the fruit set rate.
