Resumo:    A  absor&#xE7;&#xE3;o  e  ac&#xFA;mulo  do  sil&#xED;cio  pelas  plantas  trazem  in&#xFA;meros  benef&#xED;cios,  como  o  aumento  da taxa fotossint&#xE9;tica, da concentra&#xE7;&#xE3;o interna de CO2, efici&#xEA;ncia de uso da &#xE1;gua, dentre outros. O objetivo do trabalho  foi  avaliar  o  efeito  da  aduba&#xE7;&#xE3;o  com  sil&#xED;cio  na  qualidade  da  fibra  do  algodoeiro.  Para  isso, foram realizados experimentos em campo, nos anos de 2012 e 2013, sendo a fonte de sil&#xED;cio utilizada o silicato de alum&#xED;nio  (caulim).  No  primeiro  ano,  os  tratamentos foram  aplicados  via  recobrimento  de  sementes  com doses:  0,  100,  200,  300  e  400  g  Si  por  100  kg  de  sementes-1;  0,  45,  90,  135  e  180  kg  Si  ha-1  aplicado  via foliar; e 0, 1000, 2000, 3000 e 4000 kg Si ha-1 aplicado no solo. No segundo ano, os tratamentos foram: 0, 45,  90,  135  e  180  kg  Si  ha-1  via  foliar;  e  0,  2000,  4000,  6000  e  8000  kg  Si  ha-1 aplicado  no  solo.  Para verificar  o  efeito  dos  tratamentos,  foram  avaliadas  as  seguintes  vari&#xE1;veis:  comprimento  m&#xE9;dio  da  fibra, uniformidade  de  comprimento  da  fibra,  &#xED;ndice  de  fibras  curtas,  resist&#xEA;ncia  da  fibra,  alongamento  da  fibra, reflect&#xE2;ncia, grau de amarelamento, &#xED;ndice micronaire, maturidade e &#xED;ndice de fiabilidade. A aduba&#xE7;&#xE3;o com sil&#xED;cio   proporciona   efeito   ben&#xE9;fico   nas   caracter&#xED;sticas   reflect&#xE2;ncia,   &#xED;ndice   de   fibras   curtas,   grau   de amarelamento e &#xED;ndice micronaire da fibra do algodoeiro.

Abstract:   The absorption and accumulation of thesilicon by plants brings numerous benefits, the increased photosynthetic  rate,  of  the  internal  CO2  concentration,  efficiency  of  water  use,  among  others. The  objective this  work  was  to  evaluate  the  effect  of  silicon  fertilization  on  the  quality  of  the  cotton  fiber.  The field experiments were conducted in the years 2012 and 2013, being the source of silicon used aluminum silicate. In the first year, treatments were applied through seed coating with doses: 0, 100, 200, 300 and 400 g Si 100 kg of seeds-1; 0, 45, 90, 135 and 180 kg Si ha-1 applied on leaf and 0, 1000, 2000, 3000 and 4000 kg ha-1 Si applied in the soil. In the second year, the treatments were 0, 45, 90, 135 and 180 kg Si ha-1 applied on leaf; and  0,  2000,  4000,  6000  and  8000  kg  ha-1  Si  applied  in  the  soil.  Were  evaluated  the  variables:  average length  of  the  fiber,  the  fiber  length  uniformity,  short  fiber  index,  fiber  strength,  elongation  fiber,  and reflectance, degree of yellowing, micronaire index, maturity index and reliability. Silicon fertilization provides beneficial effect on reflectance characteristics, short fiber index, degree of yellowing and micronaire index of cotton fiber.
