O objetivo do presente documento é abordar esses desafios e apontar soluções visando sobrepujá-los.

Abstract – Santa Catarina was the first Brazilian state where specific regulatory measures have been applied to marine shellfish aquaculture areas. Six hundred and nineteen areas were ceded in the state by the federal government. Despite this important achievement, there are challenges related to the occupation of the sea by aquaculture projects that still need to be overcome to promote the sustainable development of the sector. These challenges are: to meet the existing demand for aquaculture areas in the state; to solve conflicts in the use of the coastal zone; to adjust the positioning of aquaculture areas and to promote the occupation of the aquaculture areas, respecting the geographical limits stipulated in the assignments of use. The objective of this document is to address these challenges and to point solutions to surmount them.
